Honda
Motor To Boost Overseas SUV Production
TOKYO (Nikkei)--Honda Motor Co. is
considering manufacturing its CR-V sport
utility vehicle in India, Turkey and
Brazil, informed sources said Sunday.
The company, which now makes the SUV
in Thailand, Malaysia and other Southeast
Asian nations and began assembling it in
the U.K. in late June, reckons demand for
the model is growing in the U.S., Europe
and Asia.
Honda will manufacture 20,000 vehicles
a year in the U.K. and is considering
exporting them to other European nations
and North America. "All Honda Motor
plants around the world except for those
in North America are being considered for
the production of the CR-V," a
company official said.
The model has been selling well since
it debuted in Japan in 1995. Sales began
rising in North America, Europe and the
rest of Asia in 1996. Global CR-V sales
have surpassed 200,000, making it Honda's
third most successful vehicle after the
Civic and the Accord.
