Honda
Rolls Out 2 Millionth Civic In
U.S.
NEW YORK
(Nikkei)--Honda Motor Co.
announced here Wednesday that it
made its 2 millionth Civic
subcompact in the U.S. on Monday.
The Civic is the third locally
produced Japanese model to top
that mark after Honda's Accord
and the Camry of Toyota Motor
Corp. .
Full-size
models have come to dominate U.S.
car sales due to the country's
prolonged period of prosperity.
But the Civic is maintaining its
popularity even as other small
cars lose market share to larger
vehicles.
Honda started
producing the Civic in
Marysville, Ohio, in 1986, and
currently assembles over 300,000
units a year in Ohio and Canada.
The Civic outsells the Saturn of
General Motors Corp. and the Neon
of DaimlerChrysler AG, both of
which were introduced as
"Japan-car killers."
The Civic also outsells the
Corolla, Toyota's long-time
favorite.
