Delphi Automotive Seeks Larger Presence In Asia

TOKYO (Nikkei)--World-leading automotive parts manufacturer Delphi Automotive Systems Corp. in five years aims to double its sales to Japan and other parts of Asia, Delphi Chairman J.T. Battenberg III said Tuesday at a news conference in Nagoya.

Delphi by 2005 plans to generate half of its revenue from sales to companies other than General Motors Corp., as opposed to the current ratio of 29%, he said.

Delphi is considering mergers and acquisitions or joint ventures in Japan to secure production points. It is currently in the midst of negotiations with a number of firms, Battenberg said.

He also said that Delphi is now offering Japanese automakers ITS (intelligent transport systems) technology covering voice recognition and telematics, which is the field of embedded communications equipment.
